In this issue Governor Rendell Picks New SRC Member Dr. Heidi Ramirez, Director of the Urban Education Collaborative, was appointed to serve on the Philadelphia School Reform Commission. Report States Philly Schools Under Funded Philadelphia schools are underfunded, according to a report delivered to the PA Department of Education by the Denver education-finance firm Augenblick, Palaich and Associates. Project U-Turn a Year Has Passed It has been a full year and millions of dollars since project U-turn was first established to help Philadelphia’s youth acquire their diplomas and develop the skills needed to provide for themselves and their families.
Nutter’s New Appointees Michael Nutter appointed a new Police Commissioner,Chief of Staff and Finance Director Mayor Elect Michael Nutter’s Third appointment was his Chief of staff. Vignola in Senate Race It has been reported that Joseph Vignola, a former City Councilman and City Controller, is considering running against Senator Vince Fumo in the Democratic Primary.
Candidate Withdraw from Primaries Both Florida and Michigan chose an interesting strategy to acquire a more prominent role in the presidential nomination process. Michigan and Florida moved their primaries up to January. Nutter Receives 1000 Resumes In his first public appearance after winning the November 6 election, Mayor-elect Michael Nutter issued a call to public service.
